How to add, change or edit your signature in Gmail

⏱ 3 min read·Updated 2026·Gmail web & mobile app

Whether you want to add a signature or change the one you already have, Gmail makes it quick — on the web and in the mobile app. Create yours below, then paste it into Gmail's settings in a couple of clicks.

1

Create your signature image or HTML

For a quick handwritten look, create an image below. For a full block with your photo, title and links, use the Email Signature Generator and copy the HTML.

2

Open Gmail signature settings

Open Gmail, click the ⚙ gear → See all settings, and stay on the General tab. Scroll down to Signature.

What you'll see

The Signature block sits near the bottom of the General tab, just below Vacation responder. If you have no signature yet, you’ll see a single + Create new button instead of an editor.

3

Paste your signature

Click Create new, name it, then paste your copied HTML signature — or use the image button to insert your PNG. Gmail keeps the formatting from a pasted HTML block.

What you'll see

The editor is a small rich-text box with bold, italic, link and image (mountain) icons along the bottom. Pasted HTML keeps its table layout, photo and links; an inserted PNG appears inline and can be clicked to resize.

4

Set defaults and save

Under Signature defaults, select your new signature for FOR NEW EMAILS and ON REPLY/FORWARD, then scroll down and click Save Changes.

Frequently asked

How do I change my existing signature in Gmail?

Open ⚙ See all settings → General → Signature, select the signature in the list, edit the text or image in the box and click Save Changes at the bottom. The update applies to new emails and replies right away.

Can I change my Gmail signature on the mobile app?

Yes. In the Gmail app for Android or iOS, open the menu, go to Settings, pick your account, then tap Signature settings (Android) or Signature (iOS). The mobile app uses a separate plain-text signature — for a full HTML signature with image and links, set it on the Gmail website.

Where is the signature setting in Gmail?

On the Gmail website, click the ⚙ gear at the top right, choose See all settings, and stay on the General tab. Scroll down to the Signature section — it sits just below Vacation responder.

Why does my image look huge in Gmail?

Gmail inserts images at full size. Resize the PNG before inserting, or download a smaller export from the Signature Maker. Around 400px wide works well for a signature.

Can I paste HTML directly into Gmail?

Yes — copy the HTML from the Email Signature Generator and paste it into the Gmail signature box. Gmail renders the table-based HTML and keeps your layout, photo and links.
